Frozen Hot Chocolate
We recently enjoyed FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE during a special "blessing trip" (will write on this at another time).
Everyone in NYC is familiar with Serendipity's all because of their chilled beverage.
Of course, while there, we didn't want to miss out on a unique site so we made our way to this restaurant all because of their famous dessert!
It was fun, special and memorable not only because we enjoyed icy chocolate milk, but because we were with family we love dearly.
Wanting to re-create this moment again in our own home, I googled Serendipity's frozen hot chocolate and wa-lah . . . the recipe appeared before my eyes! The best part is that it actually does taste like the great delight in NYC.
FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE
1/2 cup of your favorite chocolate pieces (we used chocolate chips)
2 tsp. store-bought hot chocolate mix
1 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
3 cups ice
Whipped cream
Chocolate shavings
Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place it in a double boiler over simmering water, stirring occasionally until melted. Add the hot chocolate powder and sugar, stirring thoroughly until blended. Remove from heat and slowly add 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
In a blender, place the remaining cup of milk, the room temperature chocolate mixture, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth, but allowing ice crystals to remain. Pour into a giant goblet and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Enjoy with a spoon or a staw and definitely with a friend!
We doubled this recipe and it served five.
