Day Ten - The Plague of Hail

The plagues should be making an impact on your family by now as they did for the children of Israel and for the Egyptians. It was sweet to hear my children telling others about the things they have been learning. I guess wearing the band-aids all over their bodies reminding them of hte boils helped raise questions and they were happy to give the answers!

Visual aid suggestions for the Plague of Hail:  Serve icy foods ~ snow cones, slushies, icy's.  To depict the fire from the sky ~ sparklers.

Read the TRUE STORY from Exodus 9:

"Then the LORD said to Moses, "Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to him, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, "Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. "For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth.

"But, indeed, for this reason
I have allowed you to remain,
in order to show you My power
and in order to proclaim My name
through all the earth.

God allowed the plagues / judgment so that HIS NAME WOULD BE PROCLAIMED

"Still you exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go. "Behold, about this time tomorrow, I will send a very heavy hail, such as has not been seen in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.
"Now therefore send, bring your livestock and whatever you have in the field to safety.
Every man and beast that is found in the field and is not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, will die.'""
GOD MAKES PROVISION TO FLEE FROM JUDGMENT
BRING THE ANIMALS IN FROM THE FIELD
God offered mercy to Egyptians who followed His word

"The one among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of the LORD made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses; but he who paid no regard to the word of the LORD left his servants and his livestock in the field."
Do we fear the word of the LORD
OR
Do we have no regard to the Word of the Lord?
The choice is ours:  Blessing or cursing?

Now the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that hail may fall on all the land of Egypt, on man and on beast and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt."

Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. So there was hail, and fire flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very severe, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. The hail struck all that was in the field through all the land of Egypt, both man and beast; the hail also struck every plant of the field and shattered every tree of the field.

Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, there was no hail.

Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time; the LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones.

"Make supplication to the LORD, for there has been enough of God's thunder and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."
Moses said to him, "As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease and there will be hail no longer, that you may know that the earth is the LORD'S.
"But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear the LORD God."
Now the flax and the barley were ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud.
But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they ripen late.

So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his hands to the LORD; and the thunder and the hail ceased, and rain no longer poured on the earth.
But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned again and hardened his heart, he and his servants.

Pharaoh's heart was hardened which is a sin, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the LORD had spoken through Moses.

FALSE gOD – IDOL of the Egyptians:
Nature’s fruitfulness was symbolized by a god --- the best fruits were votive offerings.
The hail destroyed every herb and every tree in the field.
Ice and fire were mingled with the hail

Sky goddess: Nut
“Her name is translated to mean Night and she is considered one of the oldest deities among the Egyptian pantheon, with her origins being found on the creation story of Heliopolis. She was originally the goddess of the nighttime sky, but eventually became referred to as simply the sky goddess.” Wikipedia

God allowed the plagues
SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW:

Job 19:29 "Then be afraid of the sword for yourselves, for wrath brings the punishment of the sword, So that you may know there is judgment."

Isaiah 43:10 "You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me.

Isaiah 45:3 "I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden wealth of secret places, So that you may know that it is I, The LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by your name.

Jeremiah 44:29 'This will be the sign to you,' declares the LORD, 'that I am going to punish you in this place, so that you may know that My words will surely stand against you for harm.'

Matthew 9:6 "But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--then He said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your bed and go home."

John 10:38 but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."

Ephesians 6:22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know about us, and that he may comfort your hearts.

1John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Teaching Points:
1. God wants us to know (to adhere – to cling to) TRUTH
2. God will give us over to or will destroy the gods we put before Him
3. There are no other gods!
4. God Almighty is the ONE TRUE GOD

Prayer:  May we KNOW the truth and walk in the light of that truth and in obedience to the truth.
Song: I know that I know
