According to 100 year+ old pediatrician, Dr. Denmark, babies should begin on solid foods as soon as they have teeth and begin to drool. The following recipe is for babies older than five months.
Before trying a new food with baby, wait four days to be sure there are no food allergies
Breakfast
• 2 tablespoons fruit (applesauce or prunes if constipated)
• 3 tablespoons protein (cooked black eye peas, lean meat, egg)
• 3 tablespoons starch (rice cereal, oatmeal)
• 1 banana
All of the above should be well pureed, mixed together, boiled for three minutes, and served warm. It is best to serve the food right out of the pot to reduce the possibility of contamination.
(I blended my baby food in the blender and stored it in a container in the refrigerator then cooked each portion at each meal).
Lunch
• 2 tablespoons fruit
• 3 tablespoons protein
• 3 tablespoons starch
• 3 tablespoons vegetables (leafy or green vegetables are best because of high iron)
• 1 banana
Supper
• Same as lunch
Water to drink, never fruit juice – sugar content too high…better to eat an apple!
Verse for the day
