Evaluating Spiritual Life ~ How does one know if they have been chosen?

The process should be easy.  Just as you have no doubt that you are a living being that eats, drinks, sleeps, has emotion, desire, passion, and breathes in your physical body, you can evaluate spiritual life in the same way.  Do you experience those same signs of life in your spirit?

I John offers questions for evaluation:
  • Do you hunger for God’s Word?
  • Do you obey His commands?
  • Do you love the things of the world or are your affections towards God?  “Do not love the world, nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” I John 2:15
  • Do you love others?  “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”  I John 4:7
  • Do you pray?
  • Do you practice righteousness ~ then you are born of God.  “If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.”  I John 2:29
  • Do you confess Jesus as Lord and confess that Jesus is God’s Son?  “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.”  I John 4:15
Do you sense the very breath
of His life in you?

The Bible says that, if we know God, His Spirit testifies with our spirits that we are, indeed, children of God (Romans 8:16).  You can also stand on the truth that you did not choose this spiritual life.  You couldn’t have because . . . you were dead!  Remember – you had no control over the sperm joining the egg to bring forth your human existence; therefore, you had no control over your spiritual birth.  You did not exercise free choice but experienced God’s mercy as a free gift.  If you are alive spiritually, you are a recipient of God’s amazing grace!
…more to come
